Suse 9.0 help networking help
I need some help on how to get my computer online.
I can't seem to connect to my router. I have a wired connection, I've followed the instructions in the user guide, and the link it gave me no longer exsists.
I have a DLink 100/10 MBPS network card, it gave it a driver, but it didn't pick up anything from the network. Everything I've tried has failed.

GW 8 Webaccess App Won't Install
I came in this morning to do upgrade our Groupwise 7 system to 8 (Netware), and everything went great until I tried to install Web Access. When I run the web access install it halts at the file copying portion. I never receive a response from the server, and I have waited 10 to 20 minutes several times. If I use taskmanager to kill the process I receive a remote procedure call failed. I have file caching set to off on the Novell client as some people recommended. I tried running the agent install and then the application, which installed the agent fine, but still hung on the application. I have commented out all of the autoexec info for starting tomcat and apache restarted the server and still had the same problem. I have tried manually downing those packages and letting the software do it, and neither works.
Please help.
Thanks
Ben

eDirectory Backup with Novell utilities vs LDIF with delete
Greetings,
I was working on eDirectory backup strategies last weekend and figured-out many ways like ndsbackup, offline backup, dsclone etc....
currently I am in integration assignment where we are trying to put role service module in edir. Basically, we have edir in place whereas we are extending schema with around 60-70 classes and around 500-600 attributes. Also, we are creating structure, extending different object from classes.....
Now for the roleback plan to restore the eDir back to the previous state, we identified few suitable ways like, as we know what we are extending, we are generating undo scripts with chagetype: delete so that we would be able to delete if required.
The upload activity is kind of bulk-upload where we would load around 10,000 objects.
My question is, how feasible solution is to have LDIF in place of traditional way of backup?
Also, tree is connected with different tree as well so how to manage frequent addition and deletion using LDIFs? We have experience that playing with schema n LDIFs leads to halt in the synchronization.
What would be good to have, offline or online backup?

Network Install Question
Hi,
I'm looking to do remote install (later auto-install) for SLES servers, however, I'm not sure its possible in our environment.
Sites have a NW server for file, print, DNS and DHCP services and it is being replaced by an OES2 (SLES 10) server. As these servers are in different countries I am wanting to do a remote install from an installation server in central office without needing CD/DVD source media at local site.
Is this possible? Is there any alternatives?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Michael

low disk space on /var, how to add more?
hello,
I'm running sles9 SP3.
it's a mail server that's been running very well for a few years now. it's running cyrus as the imap server. The / directory is now over 90% full. When I did a du -sh on it I can see the /var/spool/imap directory is the one with most of the disk space usage.
What is a simple way to add more disk space to the /var directory? I have 2 file systems on the machine, / and /opt2. /opt2 is where I keep the vmware virtual machine as well as the disk backups that get synced to online backup.
I'm thinking I can get more disk space by doing backups on network so I can use that free disk space for /var.
My question is how? I know there are a few ways but I want to be sure I don't damage this system - it is a production mail server.
Thank you,
Oskar

Could not communicate with engine
I am getting "Could not communicate with engine" message when running a consistency check. The consistency reports are being created. I sometimes get the same message when I view view the reports.
I have setup an NSMEngine.exe.config to bypass our proxy server and I still receive the message.
The engine doesn't show any errors.

Finding message based on GWID in BES error log
There are a couple of messages in a user's mailbox that BES is having trouble with, e.g. (user name has been replaced with "username"):

This exception happens very frequently and repeatedly on the same 2 message GWIDs but otherwise does not appear to have any major impact.
How can I search for the specific messages causing the issues? Presumably by using the GWID=4B06E17D, but no such messages under the offiles folder, so again presumably, they are in the msg....db files somewhere.
I've done a rebuild and no errors.
Thanks for any assistance.

clinet for xp lock files
Netware 5.0
3 stations win98 with 3.0.0. client because there was a problem with newer clients.
The 3.0.0. on win98 connects to a database and there is no problem with reorganizing the database and all works fine.
With a newer client there was a problem with : 3 clients 3.0.0. are connected and working , when 4rd newer client 3.4 tryes to connect to a database it locks files for himself.
I tryed to connect a xp station with xp client 4.91 client from SP1 to SP5.
Same thing. Xp locks files and wont share.
It only works when xp client is alone in a connection with a database , 3 win98 clients disconnected from database.
So could this problem be a NMAS related ??
Or could help to set : on server
Set client file caching enabled = off
Set level 2 oplocks enabled = off

GW 7.0.3 HP4 and SLES 10 SP3
I'm about to update a SLES 10 SP2, OES 2 SP1b system to SLES 10 SP3 and OES2 SP2. The server is running GW7.0.3 HP4. Though I will be upgrading to GW8 soon, I do not have time to do all upgrades at once.
Will I have trouble running Gw7 on this updated server?
Please advise.
Thanks,
Dan

OES 2 SP2 Botched..Help!
I tried upgrading one of our servers to OES2 SP2. I followed the instructions in the documentation and tried to upgrade it via rug. Everything was fine until I tried to update it with the command "rug up -t patch -g recommended && rug ping -a". It came back with a bunch of errors that the source couldnt be found and such (I cant remember exactly, but it looked like dependency errors). I didnt want to mess things up so I decided to stop there and run the offline installation. Things were fine with that, until the eDirectory upgrade. The problem that we ran into is that this server is a VM on VMWare and has the VMXNet3 NIC on it. Problem is that SLES doesnt have the NIC driver for it and the eDirectory installation failed. But, the rest of the SLES10 SP3 and OES2 SP2 upgrades went through...
I booted the system back up and changed the NIC driver to the FLEXIBLE one so that it would pick up during the upgrade. I did that then ran through the offline upgrade process again. Of course, everything was already upgraded and when it came time to do the eDirectory part it goes through like it would when you are adding a new server to the tree. So I stopped there.
It seems to server is up and running fine, but Id like to complete the OES2SP2 upgrade process so its fully up to date.
When I try to run the "rug up -t patch -g recommended && rug ping -a" command again, it errors out saying:

DSN login error 669
Not sure when it started before or after SESE sp3 and OES2 sp2 the DNS server will not stay running. Log shows login error 669.
I have tried removing the config files on the server and restart and deleted the server in iMnager and recreating it but still get the error.
Does any one know where the information is stored or how to fix this?

LPR Communication Failed
Hi,
6 out of my 7 network printers have this problem for the past 2 months.
Printer Agent Status Details: LPR Communication Failed.
Associated Message from Printer: Background test of printer connection failed, error: 36.
The only way to print after the message is to manually turn off and on the printers. I can ping all of them during the error.
I also manually installed one printer TCP/IP with the same result: "user intervention required".
After restarting the printers, user can print for 1 or 2 hours.
The error happen when someone send a print job.
What should I look for?
Thanks for your help.

recovering from BM 3.8 SP5 server crash
Our our BM 3.8 SP5 server crashed last week that was running NW 6.5 SP6 OS. Our backup failed to restore to a new hardrive, so we just did a fresh install and pulled tree info from our OES Linux server. I think we are ready to install Border Manager again but need to ask advice about correct procedure.
Should I install BM 3.8 SP5 first, then upgrade to 3.9 SP2 or just go direct to BM 3.9 SP2? I have the old config files I can copy back to their previous directories and assume edir info is still there in regards to filters, etc.
Thanks,
Rob

Basic Interface Question
I'm trying to access Webaccess with Nokia phone. I can get to page to insert name and password, but cannot seem to send it (no button to click). Is there switches that can be put into the bookmark to force basic interface. Used to be in earlier versions I believe. I'm thinking I am not accessing basic interface.

IP address change
Hi All,
We are planning to move the servers. Once servers are moved we need to change the ip address. we have 3 server. One has master replica and other 2 are read-write replica. We are moving one of the read-write replica server. We have to change ip of this server. All the 3 servers are File servers. nothing else is installed.
All the servers are Netware 6.5 SP 7.
Could you let me know what changes I have to make after IP change. Do I have to make any change in master replica also. Even we are moving Master server week after this move. Please let me know how to go about it. As I am doing this for the first time
I have created a document for the same.
STEPS TO CHANGE THE IP ADDRESS
1. Inecfg
Change the IP address and DNS entry.
Change the gate way
2. Change the enteries in host file and hostname file
Sys\etc\host
Sys\etc\hostname
3. Edit autoexec.ncf
Bindings/Mask
Default route
4. Changes in Apache
Sys\adminsrv\conf
Change all the ip to reflect the new ip
4 places where the ip address needs to be changed
5. No changes for ifolder and web access.
6. LDAP/SSL
No change for LDAP
SSL certificates needs to be deleted (in our case we need to delete SSL CERTIFICATE IP as we changed only the ip. SSL CertificateDNS does not require any changes.
Once the SSL is deleted run PKIDIAG.NLM option 4 and 0
7. Set dstace=*L
Execute a repair server address from DSrepair
Dsrepair rn
8. Find the replica ring holders | Advanced options menu | Replica and partition operations | note the partitions and gointo each replica ring. Note the server names of all ring members.
9. Now repair network address for each server in the ring. dsrepair | adv. option | Servers known to this database | Enter on the server name | Repair selected server's network address | do this for each replica ring holder; for each Partition.
For eGuide you need to manually change the directories. properties and the new_data_source_dir_scheme.xml. These 2 files are listed under /SYS/tomcat/4/webapps/eGuide/WEB-INF/properties
10. No changes to SLP scope as there is no SLP scope created in Master replica for Hyderlit2
11. SLP:If you are running a SLP DA you can remove objects from the SLP Scope that reference services on the server to ensure this happens instantly.
Once this is done, execute a 'SET SLP RESET = ON' on the DA(s).
12. Server SET parameters (also accessible via MONITOR.NLM):
set SLP include, exclude addresses if you have changed them from default settings.
set NCP include, exclude addresses if you have changed them from default settings.
2ND Method
Login to the NetWare Remote Manager (NRM) by going to https://IPorDNS:8009
Under the MANAGE SERVER section, click on CONFIGURE TCPIP | START TCPIP CONFIGURATION | TCP/IP TO INTERFACE BINDINGS.
Select the appropriate interface if there is more than one in the list.
Once in the interface, change the IP address and then click on SAVE.
** NOTE ** You may receive an error saying that the address is in use for the Portal. What it is saying is that you are currently using this address with the NetWare Remote Manager and if you reinitialize your system you will loose your connection. Do NOT reinitialize your system yet.
Click BACK and EXIT. You will then receive this message. Just click OK, we will reset the server in a minute.
Now go back to NRM and select IP ADDRESS MANAGEMENT under the MANAGE SERVER section. You will notice that there certain services that are specifically configured for the old IP address and they now show an INVALID in red. You will need to select the application link on the left hand side and change it to the new IP address. An example is shown in the next step.
Here we will click on the ApacheAdmin section and select the new IP address from the drop down list. Click APPLY to continue.
Perform this same IP address for any application in the list that still show the old IP address. ** NOTE ** After you change the first application, the other applications may not show invalid, however the will still show the old IP address. This is because we have not yet reinitialized the system. Don?t worry about this and just change the IP address in the other sections. One this is done, go to the DOWN/RESTART section under MANAGE SERVER and click on the RESET button to perform a RESET SERVER.
Note: Once this has been completed, it would be wise to perform a Limber process on the server. Do this by entering the following commands at the console prompt:
SET DSTRACE=ON
SET DSTRACE=NODEBUG
SET DSTRACE=+LIMBER
SET DSTRACE=*L
You should see and "End connectivity check, all OK" message on the Directory Services screen.
Thanks in advance for your help.
SET DSTRACE=ON
SET DSTRACE=NODEBUG
SET DSTRACE=+LIMBER
SET DSTRACE=*L
You should see and "End connectivity check, all OK" message on the Directory Services screen.
Thanks in advance for your help.
