YaST – Manual Migration From OpenLDAP to eDirectory on SLES
This AppNote provides information on how to migrate YaST from OpenLDAP to eDirectory manually on SLES, making sure that LDAP based applications do not break. SLES offers eDirectory to be used as an alternate to OpenLDAP. But applications already using LDAP on SLES would break unless there is a provision to migrate the existing data from OpenLDAP to eDirectory.

Help needed: PHP rrdtool extension
I spent yesterday afternoon and most of the evening trying to get the PHP rrdtool extension working on SLES 10 SP1 to no avail. While I could compile the extension, when I added it to the appropriate directory and configured the php.ini file it just didn't seem to pick it up....

Manual Removal of iFolder 3.7 with Re-installation on OES 2 Linux
In the process of getting iFolder 3.7 to run on an OES 2 Linux server I had a bout of power outages that resulted in a corruption of the root partition and guess which part caught the corrupted blocks. Yep, iFolder's data store. I toyed with it for a while and then decided to just re-install it, especially since no one was using it yet. Here is what I did to get it all back up and running.

LJDT: Taking Advantage of Screen
Last week I was asked if there was a way to start an application at the command line and later come back to it from somewhere else. Normally in Linux/Unix (*nix) it is possible to 'background' a process and then return to it later on but that's only if you are still in the same session where the process was sent to the background. This is useful to have something run while you do other things but reconnecting to this session cannot be done with just the shell. Thankfully 'screen' is on Linux systems by default (all of them I've used anyway) and as a result, Linux Just Does That.
