Technical Specifications

The following are system requirements for Business Experience Manager. Note that Business Experience Manager must be installed in conjunction with Novell Business Service Manager as it depends upon Business Service Manager for data integration, common services, and basic analytic/reporting capabilities. The actual requirements listed below may be higher for your site depending on the size of your organization’s managed network.

There are three main components to install with Novell Business Service Manager – the Novell Business Service Manager server, the Novell Business Service Manager database, and the Managed Objects database, and the Novell Business Service Manager client. System requirements for these are listed below.

Note: If you are installing Business Service Manager on a 64-bit VM, you must download and install the appropriate 64-bit JRE before installing Business Service Manager.

Deployment

While Business Experience Manager may be installed on a different physical server than the Novell Business Service Manager server, the Business Experience Manager server must resolve to the Business Service Manager server for communications.

Supported Databases

The Novell Business Service Manager supports the following databases:

IBM DB2 8.2 (DB2 drivers are not packaged with the product)
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (Drivers are not packaged with the product)

Additional Requirements

The Novell Business Service Manager client environment requirements are:

A client machine connected to the Internet or the corporate Intranet running
Internet Browser:
- Mozilla Firefox v2.x
- Microsoft Internet Explorer v7
Any machine that supports a Java2 Runtime Environment J2RE 1.5.0_13 or higher.
Minimum disk space of 50 MB (100 MB recommended)
Minimum memory allocation space of 512 MB RAM (1024 MB recommended)
Minimum processing speed of 400 MHz (UNIX) (500+ MHz recommended)
Minimum processing speed of 700 MHz (Windows) (1 GHz recommended)

Novell Business Service Manager Server Requirements

Any server-class machine that supports a Java2 Runtime Environment (J2RE).
Memory and processing speed requirements vary widely based on your configuration. At a minimum, 2 GB RAM and a dual-processor are recommended.
